How do I season my humidor?
- Should I take the cellophane off of my cigars when storing them?
- Why are humidors lined with spanish cedar?
- Seasoning a humidor is actually very simple. All that you need to do is leave a small glass (shot glass) filled with distilled water inside of it for a few days to a week. This allows the spanish cedar to absorb humidity so that it can act as a sort of "humidity buffer". The Relative humidity should be at about 70% when you are done seasoning.
- This is a very common question that gets asked on a regular basis. Cellophane is made from cellulose and is therefore semipermeable and 100% biodegradable. Your cigars will be able to breathe just fine with the cellophane on. It can also help to protect your cigars from being damaged. We suggest storing cigars the same way that they came from the factory. If the cigars came with cellophane, store them with the cellophane on. If they came without cellophane then store them without.
- Spanish Cedar has all of the characteristics needed to maintain a humid environent. It holds humidity better than most other types of woods and it has an aroma that compliments cigars. Spanish Cedar is not a cedar at all but a mahogany.
